I’m back!

Well, the great server meltdown has concluded, and I am back in action.

The odds are good that no one even noticed, but this site (and my e-mail) was down for a week. It seems that the hosting company had it’s servers in a commercial collocation (as is standard practise), but the collocation went bankrupt and the lights went out and the doors locked. As the host could not retrieve their equipment from the building, they had to start building a new system, on which they started restoring a backup from February. It’s not just this site that was affected, but three other sites I administer as well, so I have been up late working on restoring unfortunately dated backups the past two nights, and will likely be at it for a few nights yet.

Any changes or additions I have made to this site since April 11 have been lost (unless the hosting guys come up with a more recent backup, which seems unlikely). This just means that a planned migration to a new host happened a little earlier, and a little more dramatically, than expected.

Like I’m not busy enough. I’m working nine to five, preparing to move to a new home in two weeks, taking a summer math course and trying to keep up with the administrative tasks related to my weekly study of avian life for the Stanley Park Ecology Society.

Oh well, idle hands, etc. It beats being bored.
