Firefox enhancements

I tried out some interesting Firefox add-ons today:
- I like the tabs feature in Firefox and I’m forever opening new tabs using CTRL-T. However, I would kind of like my default homepage (a search engine) to load when I do. Tab Mix Plus does this, and a whole pile more things that I may or may not use.
- So far, I’m finding FireFTP a bit annoying. The window is laid out like a typical GUI file manager. What I don’t like is that the when I expand a folder in the left frame, it doesn’t scoll up if it opens below the visible area, demanding an extra step. Also, in the same window, as the tree grows further to the right as I expand folders, it does not scroll left, so I can’t see the folders that I am digging through. I’ll be deleting this one if I don’t find some config options to correct these. What I do like is that the FTP client is just another tab, and I like the connection field, which is a toolbar.
- I haven’t played with it much, yet (I do have so do some homework), but FireBug looks fun. Its description reads: “FireBug lets you explore the inner workings of Web pages. All of the tools you need to debug and perfect your JavaScript, CSS, HTML, and Ajax are brought together into one seamless experience, including HTML and CSS inspectors, a debugger, error console, and command line.”
- I also installed Download Statusbar. Instead of opening that annoying default popup download window, this creates a little toobar – as required – above the status bar, and shows the download progress there.
Besides those, there are many more, as well as themes. Check them all out at https://addons.mozilla.org/. And if you’re still using Microsoft’s sucky old Internet Explorer, download Firefox here. Version 2 has been released, and it’s free!
